Our History and Heritage
Providing service beyond our customers expectations for more than a century!
Balford was originally founded in 1892 by Frank B. Baldwin. As an after school endeavor, Frank's horse and wagon trade developed faster than a boy could manage and within a short time his father assumed the day to day operations and built a business that would be a profitable company for many years to come.
Baldwin Dairies merged with Frankford Dairies in 1965, becoming Baldwin Frankford Dairies. In 1972, the grandsons of the founder, brothers George Baldwin, Sr. and John Baldwin changed the name to Balford Farms.
In 1980, the Baldwin’s purchased a 70,000 square foot warehouse located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania which would accommodate their strategic growth plans and diversify the companies product offerings.
During the 1980's and early 90's the Baldwin’s continued to acquire small independent companies that specialized in dairy products, gourmet specialty foods, ice cream mixes and bakery supplies. Through these strategic moves, Balford Farms became a prominent, progressive distributor in the Lehigh Valley.
In October of 1996 the company merged with Quality/Breuninger's Dairy, forming an alliance with two of the oldest operating dairy icons in the region. The merger between the companies' key management teams united over 250 years of combined industry experience. The combination of experience, quality products and technological advances have lead the company's strong growth in the region.
The key to our ongoing success can be attributed to our strategic acquisitions, a commitment to strong customer partnerships and to providing our customers with only the highest quality products.
